THE THEATER AND IT'S DOUBLE (Manila, 2009)

duration: 6:00
directed by: Donna Miranda
performed by: Joaquin Roldan
director of photography: Martha Atienza
synopsis:
There is no escaping the familiar nor the inaccessible, as the indistinct boundaries between making art and life is equally inevitable. What is there left to do but seek appearance in the real, exposing the machine that drives and protects us -- the violent machine(ry) of the theater that ensures our alibi to stay distant. In this chillingly candid video work, choreographer Donna Miranda continues to work with her son and perform the authoritarian role equal to creating.

LITTLE ROOM FOR DOUBT (Manila, 2008)

duration: 4:49
directed & choreographed by: Donna Miranda
performed by: Red Lasam
director of photography: Martha Atienza
sound: Pow Martinez

synopsis:
Where we live, there is a lot of waiting. Under the sweltering heat of the noonday sun, chasing dust in an old-forgotten train station, life continues as if nothing has changed nor bound to change. Watching time erupt over each passing and going, peaceful street-riots and forgotten collective memories, people sit and wait. Deep in the pleasure of uncertainty and displacement of familiarity, hope lingers about in this little room for doubt. Meanwhile the camera observes. And because time is an undeniable dictator, the body battling indecision, we can only stand and wait as the 'dance' reveals itself.

synopsis
Complete with vows of unending love till death do us part, a dance ensues. Long after the 'high' has settled into the dust another attempt yet awaits. Follow we do! The trail of pleasure luring us back into the vicious cycle of trial and errors. Rage resting underneath untilled soil. Cheap Action Flick speculates on melodrama–on that moment when grief meets comic relief and romance turned into rage. Two bodies caught between dream and waking: the woman who sits on her throne and the man signifying what? In this chase, repetition haunts the tragedy of each one's chosen path. What are they running away from?
